I don’t plan on updating this section of the site on weekends, but after picking up the latest issue of 3D World, I saw this video, from a Vancouver Film School student featured in it and thought it was so good, I had to share it.

So I’ve been working on a shader network for my planet earth for the last few days… and came up with a problem… when I tried to attach the output of a Multiply Divide Node into a Plus Minus Average Node’s input3d, but I couldn’t select Input3d(0). The only options I had were Default or Other…
At first I thought it was the order in my nodes’ connections… so I rebuilt the whole damn thing from scratch…
Well, it wasn’t that.. it seems that Maya 2009′s Plus Minus Average Node works differently then Maya 8.
I had to go into the Plus Minus Average Node’s Attribute Editor, and add the second input3d, then connect the input into the Other output.
Why do things have to be so complicated at times?

I was working on some models last night, rigging them and just doing simple animation tests and remembered this great read for anyone interested in animation, be it traditional or CG. John Lasseter’s Principles of Traditional Animation
I definitely recommend reading it.

Over the years, I’ve realized I’m a sucker for films that spoof fairy tales and other well established genres… Igor should of been one of these films…
Igor is based in a town of evil scientists, where they all have an ‘Igor’ as an assistant. However, the star of this movie, also named Igor (go figure) had other plans for his life… he wanted to be an evil scientist himself.
The story is unfortunately quite weak, which really disappointed me, since the art was fantastic, an almost Tim Burton style world and characters. The characters are quite funny, especially Steve Buscemi’s character Scamper, the suicidal immortal rabbit.
If Hollywood is predicatable as usual, I’d wait till an other company produces an other evil scientist animation instead of getting Igor.

So an other birthday goes by. As you can see from the picture, Ange completed the cake and it looks absolutely fantastic… and it tasted really really good too :) It kinda made me sad to eat such a gorgeous art piece.
We went to one of my favorite restaurants, Trattoria Caffe Italia, food was amazing as usual, and the accordion player was sitting right next to our table which was great. We all then came back to our place, ate Mike and Sully. I opened some gifts, which included a new Maya book and a 360 game (which I ended up playing most of the night).
It was a great time, thanks everyone.
